Laminitis of horse
This is an important disease in horse, causing claudication. Cross-sections of the
horseshoe. The right shows the normal state, and the left shows laminitis. The hoof
(stratum lamellatum) is markedly hypertrophied. The lesion is non-inflammatory and
considered to be associated with dietary factors and load-induced circulatory impairment
due to standing for a long period.
