Heart of Shammore

This horse was a male thoroughbred from England that was bred in the Koiwai Farm before the war and meritorious in the Japanese racing world. After the war, he was transferred to a breeding stock farm in Iwate Prefecture and died of old age at the age of 30 years on July 15, 1953. This heart weighs 5,300 g, which is twice the weight of ordinary horses. The stuffed specimen of this horse is stored at the Fuchu Racing Track in Tokyo and its skeletal specimen at the Department of Agriculture, Tokyo University. (register No. 1040)
